What is an Artisan Tutor?

Artisan Tutor (noun) : A highly-skilled educator, who tailors teaching to each unique and individual student, with an artisanal emphasis on quality and intentional learning.

Craftsmanship is the desire to do a job well for its own sake.

We have the privilege to prepare human beings of the highest quality, taking an artisan’s approach to learning.

    • Two tutoring sessions per week (structured, high-standards teaching)

    • Fortnightly mentoring sessions to instill performance habits and keep students on track with confidence

    • Weekly self-study plan between sessions so progress compounds

    • Clear expectations around punctuality, honesty, attention, and effort

    • Alignment with parents to support their family values and household culture

    • English & essay subjects (English Language/Literature, History, RS, Politics)

    • Foreign languages (French, German, Spanish, Russian)

    • Selective school entry (7+, 11+, 13+, scholarship papers, interview preparation)

  • A short application helps me assess fit. If it looks suitable, I will invite you to a brief call.

  • I work with a limited number of students at any time. When full, I keep a waiting list.

An Artisan Tutor:

  • possesses a rare and distinct focus on depth over breadth.

  • crafts learning with careful skill and intention.

  • takes a thoughtful, unhurried approach to the learning process.

  • fosters clarity, independent thought, and lasting understanding.

  • ensures each learning step is meaningful and well-understood.

Is Artisan Tuition a good fit for my family?

Who This is For

I work with a small number of family clients at any one time. This service is not designed for last-minute rescue or one-off cramming.

It is for families investing in a long-term trajectory of excellence: deep subject mastery, clear thinking, disciplined study, and strong personal standards.

My calm, patient approach combines expert pedagogy with enjoyable challenge, and exacting standards delivered with kindness

It is particularly suited to boys who are capable of achieving more and benefit from consistent structure and steady accountability.

We prioritise long-term momentum, self-discipline, and an enduring love of learning.

Who This is Not For

Artisan Tuition addresses education from a few select areas of expertise. This specific work is not designed for everyone, so clarity here is important.

We are not the right choice for those seeking last-minute emergency rescue, short-term cramming, or one-off transactional intervention focused solely on exam results or credentials.

The work assumes steady commitment over time to a larger trajectory of excellence, with grades and examinations treated as helpful checkpoints rather than endpoints.

Our services are unlikely to be appropriate for students who expect responsibility for progress to sit entirely with the tutor, or where consistent self-study between lessons is avoided or not considered possible.

We reject a passive, frictionless experience with effort and hard work outsourced to another. Thus our approach would not be a good fit for those who expect enjoyment in learning to mean undemanding entertainment by a teacher as performer.

We offer enjoyable challenge that is bespoke to age, ability, and prior learning experience. A core emphasis is active engagement and students - supported by guidance and encouragement - taking ownership of their learning.

Our work assumes basic standards: punctuality, honesty, attention, and sustained effort. Where these expectations are not explicitly shared or supported at home, the work is unlikely to be effective.

Families looking primarily for constant reassurance or close micromanagement of the process may find the approach uncomfortable.

We offer regular feedback and guidance, rather than continual oversight. Artisan Tuition prioritises the development of independent, disciplined students with long-term confidence and mastery of clear, disciplined thinking.
